Thursday recap: de. ining sociology, what sociology does, origins of sociology. Prominent . igures: karl marx, max weber, and c. wright mills. While the functionalist view generally focuses on how people get along peacefully (consensus), the con. lict view focuses on the opposite. It is interested in domination, inequality, and violence. These are the kind of issues that would interest a con. lict sociologist. Con. lict is seen as a natural phenomenon in the sense that it is unavoidable in the social system. It is in itself a social relation and different kinds of con. lict have different impacts on social life"s dimensions and levels. To understand social relations, we must focus on con. lict. Karl marx believed that class con. lict is the driving force behind social relations and social change. Karl marx was a founding . igure of the con. lict perspective. Class struggle: the struggles between classes to resist and overcome the opposition of other classes.
