As an augustinian monk, he believed in st. augustine"s philosophy of humility, modesty, and direct conversation with god. The renaissance movement was directly against this philosophy. He wanted the teachings of jesus to be the central focal point, not this extreme egocentrism. Schooling continued to grow: people focused more on mathematics, but not pythagorean maths, the more practical kind. Machiavelli comes forward with essays on how to govern, how to manage the crown, he"s cynical, and this is very amoral. diplomacy and if necessary, intrigues.
