Average prevalence rate around 0. 7 to 1% Not as rare as most single gene disorder. Women tend to present with more symptoms of depression. Gender diff in clinical presentation, which explains why there may be an imbalance in diagnoses as women present diff than males. Female sex hormones (estrogen) may be protective against onset of schizo. Postmenopausal women (estrogen dec) more likely to develop schizo late onset schizo is more common in women. The age of onset begins in late teens to early 20"s for most people. A spike in percentage diagnosed for men around ages 15 to 24, whereas in women this spike is seen in ages 40 to 49 (postmenopause) Extremely rare but does occur more in boys. Onset always insidious= hard to tell when it begins. Abnormality which is present throughout the person"s childhood lifespan and it"s hard to tell when they cross the threshold into schizo.
