PSYC 311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Cognitive Flexibility, Face Perception, Temporal Lobe
Document Summary
This report discusses the case of hm, an epileptic. He became amnesic following a bilateral lesion in the hippocampal zone. He was able to acquire new motor skills and showed signs of intact perceptual learning. He achieves some retention of very simple visual and tactile mazes in which they were simple enough to evoke only his immediate working memory. He fails to recognize people who are close neighbors or family friends but only. He relies on accents to determine a person"s origin. He underestimates his own age but states his birthdate accurately. He has recall of episodic events prior to his operation (such as high school or jobs he held during his teens) Intact linguistic abilities speaks with a monotone but with good articulation and vocab. He did not remember the visits he made to his mother when she was in the hospital.
