PSYC 304 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Dynamical System, Handrail, Social Actions
Document Summary
There has been a debate going on for this topic. The general idea is that sensorimotor has to do with low-level things like sensation. Conceptual has more to do with mental processes. There is a fine line between sensorimotor and conceptual information we are not sure where the cutoff is. Studies whether the kids are willing to cross the bridge and whether or not they succeed. There were things in the environment that are predictive (the width of the bridge, the distance of the handrail) Other kinds of factors: things to do with the child (step size, number of days since walking, etc. ) The only thing that predicted the results (crossing the bridge/succeeding) was step size. There are reasons why some of the other factors might not be good indicators of success in crossing the bridge. E. g. , days since started walking should probably be hours of walking practice.
