Classical realism puts a lot on diplomacy: morgenthau. 1: diplomacy must be divested of crusading spirit. 2: objectives of foreign policy must be defined in terms of national interests and supported with adequate power. 3: diplomacy must look at political scene from perspectives of other nations. 4: nations must be willing to compromise on issues that are not vital to them. 5: give up shadow of worthless rights, for the substance of real advantage. 6: never put self in position from which you cannot retreat without losing face and from which you cannot advance without grave risks.
