Lebanon administered separately with christian (slight) majority population. Assigned mandates for iraq, palestine (including transjordan) Balfour declaration applied to palestine (east of jordan river) Transjordan gains independence as constitutional monarchy in 1946. They were very much under british influence and so they set up a friendly monarchy, that was pro-british and took british advice. They simply established a pro-western transitional state and granted them independence as they did not need to govern the territory. Violence in palestine grows through interwar period, culminating in un partition (1947), israeli declaration of independence (1948), arab-israeli war. Britain promised to set up the jewish national home. Very many european jewish immigrants moved to palestine fleeing persecution from europe. They palestinians aren"t necessarily happy about this and there is conflict between the two groups. As the population of jews in palestine increases, the british are faced with the contradictions of the balfour charter and give the situation to the un.
