Spectrum of authoritarianism in latin america: some regimes allow more political freedoms than others, some are more repressive and more violent than others, cold war was golden age of latin american authoritarianism. Dictatorship according to degree : dictablanda: dictablanda: relatively gentler form of authoritarianism (blanda means soft ) Corporatism: corporatism: a system whereby the state organizes lower and middle classes (workers) into vertical state structures, the state uses these structures to control organized labour directly, and to channel worker"s political activity. Uses of corporatism: less, example, peron made sure that labour could only organize through the state, all unions had to be registered with the state, this organizes relations between state and society. Extreme authoritarian regimes and labour: instead of organizing labour to support the government, more extreme authoritarian regimes (i. e. , pinochet"s chile, nicaragua"s somoza, paraguay"s stroessner) violently repressed organized labour.
