Lancet (study done every decade) : 20 leading risk factors for disease, many of them are related to what we eat / don"t eat (composition + quantity of our food) Traditional risks have been coming down dramatically as we have started to understand what were our needs (hygiene, clean water, air pollution ) At the same time, modern risks have been going up -> depending on our lifestyle, individual choices and government regulations, we either go back down or continue going up in terms of risk. Still very important because still very prominent in some poor countries. Children are the major victims => due to famine and war. Results of inadequate intake of proteins and calories : Starvation (usually not voluntary) : lose lean body mass, stop growing .
