Document Summary
Announcements: this week dr. zorychta is having sessions with those who scored 50% on the midterm, email dr. zorychta for remedial help sessions, and email tas for tutoring (see mycourses) The figure on the right shows the rate of different cancers in different age groups. Cancer occurrence: complying statistics annually is important for epidemiological reasons, to see if there are areas of each country that have a higher prevalence of a certain type of cancer. However, the relative mortality (the fraction of people that will die) is decreasing. Many media outlets spread incorrect information, for example, 1 in 9 women will have breast cancer. This is true for women who are 85 years old: by age 25, there is a 1 in 19,608 chances of having breast cancer, by age 65, there is a 1 in 17 chances of having breast cancer.
