A way of connection publishers, songwriters, and many people occupying in the same building: a musical style, a body of music. Famous songwriters: cole porter, george and ira gershwin, jerome kern. Lyricist is different than the author who is the songwriter. Songwriter is not responsible for transcription of the music: transcription is another position (notation by musical secretary) Passed on to the arranger who would decide the instruments playing the music: most commonly piano and voice, take in consideration musical skill, consider audience. Publisher is responsible of producing the sheet music. Band leaders play and records songs as a way of advertisement: publishers can have multiple band leaders playing the song, eg. on the radio or by recording. Professional pianists that demonstrate the songs in store.
