Received financial support from king ludwig ii of bavaria: paid for the ring and a new opera house in bayreuth: wagner designed the whole thing, first opera house to turn off the house lights, covered orchestra pit so everyone would focus on the opera, egalitarian seating no private boxes for aristocrats.
