Romantic continued 12/03/18: famous for lieder, ex: death and the maiden. Modulates into another key where death sings. Not melodic, sounds like a funeral march. Music at the end and beginning of the piece are the same thing, ties everything together. Clara schumann (1819 1896: most influential as a performer, taste maker : helped form the musical taste of the public. The way she performed and memorized her music. This happened a lot in the 19th century. Clara schumann said she shouldn"t compose because it was men who were creative. Robert schumann (1810 1956: wrote sympthonies, songs, etc, was an important critic. Introducing people to older music that the wouldn"t have otherwise known about. A woman"s life written by a man. The last part starts with a dissonant chord. There"s an even uglier chord at the mention of death. There"s a beat in this piece that is written to make it sound like there isn"t.
