MIMM 214 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Fas Ligand, Proinflammatory Cytokine, T Helper Cell
Document Summary
Fas ligand & cd40 ligand: both get expressed on the surface of effector t cells and are crucial for their function, membrane bound ligands, part of tnf family. Th1 responses are often involved in the response to infections by viruses and pathogens that survive inside macrophage vesicles. Th2 responses are often involved in the response to parasites and other extracellular pathogens (and also allergy) Th17 responses are often involved in the response to infections by extracellular bacteria and fungi - pro- inflammatory. Th2 cells deal with helminths and extracellular pathogens: secrete il-4, il-5, il-13 and have an effect on granulocytes (eosinophils, mast cells, basophils) Th17 cells deal with extracellular bacteria and fungi: secrete cytokines il-17 and il-22 that have an effect on neutrophils, key effector molecules and cytokines to remember. Take-home message: keep in mind the t cell source of cytokines and how it is tied to the effects on various cell types.
