Affect: range of emotions and moods that people experience in their life context. Emotions: strong positive or negative feelings directed toward someone or something. (short term and targeted at someone or something) It is an ability to understand emotions in ourselves and others and to use that understanding to manager relationships effectively. The way we deal with affect is how ei is measured. Knowing when a negative emotion is about to disrupt and controlling it. Major emotions: anger, fear, joy, love, sadness and surprise. Self-conscious emotions: internal sources (guilt, embarrassment and pride) Social emotions: external sources (pity, envy and jealousy) Moods: generalized positive and negative feelings or states of mind that may persist for some time. Spillover effects of one"s emotions and mood onto other. Team members" shared good or bad moods within two hours of being together. Bad moods traveled person to person in teams faster than good moods.
