Demographic Characteristics of OA (Older Adults): Myths and Realities
Baby boomers: well educated, hold “all the jobs”, late retirement,
Hard working, did not receive any handouts, think new generation is “lazy”
Impact on health care system and similar services: health crisis, pension crisis
This will create a lot of jobs
Rethinking jobs and opportunities for OA
Anxiety and cost around asking for help, falling into the crisis is taboo, frail and need home care
= you failed? Or 85 very healthy, did you “succeed” or do you present yourself as healthier and
more independent than you are and then miss out on possible helpful services
All 5 sense tend to decline with age-> 4 decline, touch does not, particularly helpful working
with dementia, but MUST be mindful of reaction to touch.
