Human rights violation in conflict/violence!
What’s conflict/violence?!
-Competitive or opposing action of incompatibles: antagonist state or action (as of divergent
ideas, interest, or persons) a conflict of principles!
-Mental struggles resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes or external
or internal demands His conscience was in conflict with his duty!
-Presence of war or physical violence !
What human rights violations are committed and who bares the most burden in conflict? !
-Women and girls!
-Children!
-People with disability!
-School children!
-Schools!
-Churches !
Types/Nature of Conflicts!
Conflict of violence can be experienced as an individual or as a group!
systemic violence is to a group, normally the minority, by a dominant group.!
These can take the form of:!
-Physical!
-Emotional!
-Psychological!
-Cultural!
How does cultural violence/conflict affect education and learning?!
-Formal and informal teaching about nonviolence or conflict resolutions are sensitive issues
and should consider the socio-cultural values that give/gave rise to or produce(d) the
violence or conflict!
-How can history about cultural conflict be taught in schools, especially when that history
includes serious injustice, human rights violations or even genocide by one people towards
another within the same country?!
