Be able to follow how we interpret these episodes as a cultural educa9on and experience of greek society: hospitality, leadership, gender roles, family, Three generations preceding agamemnon: tantalus punished for his hybris. Because of this, the story goes, he now stands in water up to his head and is constantly thirsty. When he wants to take a drink of water, the water recedes. Likewise, fruit hangs over his head, and when he wants to take some, the branches are blown out of reach by the wind. Also, a huge boulder hangs over his head, and he is constantly afraid that it will fall down on top of him: pelops and the infamous chariot race hippodamia. 3 pausanias records that the eleans honor pelops as much above all the heroes of olympia as they honor.
