Interpretive approach: clifford geertz, axiom (general truth) that gifted ethnographers learn their trade by preparing themselves as broadly as possible, ethnographic work requires a wide range theoretical capacities and finely tuned sensibilities (can"t predict what will encounter in the field, double interpretative approach, clyde klutckhohon, 1st ordeal of psychoanalysis, 2nd fieldwork, however, this sometimes leads to an authoritative ethnographer, eclectic book knowledge, life experiences, edifying reading and self awareness defeat ignorance and sensitivity. Young men coming of age undergo a protracted period of personal turmoil during which they have a fierce desire to take a head ( troubled period : seek a life partner, contemplate the traumatic displacement of leaving their families and entering their new wife"s household as a stranger, strong lust to wear the coveted red hornbill earrings that adorn the ears of men who have taken a head, buintaw = stereotypical young unmarried man.
