It involves cognitive control, which works in top-down manner where neurons fire ap when they get input from other neurons. It controls other things that go on within the body, however, it does not control itself (meaning that you are the one that controls it) It is what provides you the feeling of agency. Executive function is agency the idea that there is a you" inside that gets to decide things (e. g. am i going to get the chicken or the fish?) Humans must have intact emotional responses in order to make good and rational decisions. Phineas gage: when a tampered rod passed through the bottom of his chin, penetrated out of the front of his skull, and flew out, he remained conscious. When individuals were given tests of intelligence, they tend to do well. These subjects show particular deficits in normal decision-making processes: ventromedial prefrontal cortex includes orbitofrontal and anterior cingulate cortex.
