ANAT 262 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Camillo Golgi, Secretion, Endoplasmic Reticulum
Document Summary
General plan endocytic pathway (outside to in, oversimplified) Cell surface, cell exterior => early endosome (also alternate pathways) => late endosome. Direct pathways between endosomes and golgi will also be discussed (trafficking between endocytic and golgi apparatus) Er discovered by keith porter in 1945; faint network in the background , allowed discovery of ribosomes (since attached to er) Golgi apparatus discovered by camillo golgi in 1898. Golgi concentrated near the nucleus, varies between cell types (not true for muscle cells). Looks like a stack of pancakes, arranged in ribbon-like structure, sometimes cluster around nucleus, sometimes more spread out. E. g. secretory vesicles fuse with cell surface to release mucus, secretory vesicles seem to originate from the golgi apparatus. Material secreted leaves the golgi apparatus which package the mucus. 1950-1960s: work by george palade using em and membrane fractionation defines the secretory pathway (endoplasmic reticulum) => golgi => secretory granule such as condensed and zymogen granules => surface.
