BIOL 306 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Aplysia, Motor Neuron, Sensory Neuron
Document Summary
Habituation: decrease in reaction to a stimulus after multiple exposures to the stimulus. Aplysia when it stops retracting its gill. When your nose stops smelling the surrounding. Increase of response to a stimulus after a different kind of stimulation. Zap the tail of aplysia while you touch its siphon will lead to an exaggerated gill. Classical conditioning/pavlovian conditioning withdrawal response: the ability to produce a new response (a conditioned response) to a previously neutral stimulus by pairing the neutral stimulus with a stimulus which always induces said response. Dog salivates when presented food (unconditioned response) Present dog the food while ringing a bell. Dog salivates when bell is rung (conditioned response created) You can extinguish this conditioning by sounding the bell without giving the food enough times. Operant conditioning: action-related, reinforcement (positive or negative) is only given when animal has a certain response. Zap the animal when it turns left, so it learns not to turn left.
