Document Summary
Not all genotypic variaions result in phenotypic variaions. Mutagens: agents that cause changes in the dna sequence (ex. chemicals, radiaion, viruses) Dimitri ivanovsky & tobacco mosaic virus (found that it wasn"t bacteria) Virus classiicaion: host speciicity and pathology (what disease do they cause and what host do they infect, geneic material (rna or dna or both can be used as their geneic material, size and shape (electron microscopy) Viruses use a variety of geneic material: single stranded dna, double stranded dna, single stranded rna, double stranded rna, circular or linear. Lyic life cycle because it requires the lyses of the bacteria cell. Plaque = clear area on an otherwise opaque ield of bacteria that indicates the inhibiion or dissoluion of the bacterial cells by some agent, either a virus or an anibioic. Plaques can be big or small, depending on the genotype of the phage; the phages have genes too; so they have genotypes that have phenotypes.
