Byp1-4 the purpose and use of financial statements. Learning activity: in this collaborative learning activity students will work in pairs to analyze income statements from two competing companies, and will then join with one or two other pairs to draw some conclusions using their analyses. Preparation and materials required: pairs of students; groups made up of two or three pairs, cla 1-4 student handout, cla 1-4 solution handout, cla 1-4 solution ppts, cla 1-4 facilitation notes. The income statements are reproduced on a slide for ease of access. Circulate while the pairs are working to ensure they are working together, and to answer any questions they may have. Remind them that not all answers in accounting require numbers! Before moving on go through the powerpoint slides that contain the solutions to the questions. The slides contain the same solution as provided in the solution handout: reorganize the class into groups of two or three pairs (4 to 6 students).
