Scientific field that seeks to understand the nature and causes of individual behaviour in social situations. Looks at human behaviour as influenced by other people and the social context in which this occurs. The tendency for people who are being watched to perform better than they would alone. However, if the task isn"t simple, there will be a large margin of error because of nervousness. An audience would improve an actors performance in well learned/simple tasks but lead to a decrease in performance on newly learned/difficult tasks due to social inhibition. Behaviour in the social world could be modeled. Children who had seen the adult rewarded were found to be more likely to copy behaviour. Dissonance occurs when there are difficult choices or decisions or when people participate in behaviour that is contrary to their attitudes. Change one or more attitudes, behaviors, or beliefs. We are divided into groups, prejudice results from the awareness that there is an out group.
