Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle an event or situation. Many people consider stress to be something that happens to them (ex. an event) Others think that stress is what happens to our body, mind and behavior in response to an event (ex. anxiety) Our thoughts about the situations in which we find ourselves are the critical factor. A response to a stressor that consists of tension, discomfort or physical symptoms. This stressor can strain our ability to cope effectively. Traumatic event is a severe stressor that can produce long term psychological or health consequences. People differ in their sources of stressors and abilities to cope. The goal is to balance these as much as possible. Hyper stress and hypo stress perfectly and have as much eustress as possible. Stress is the result of any demand upon the body, mental or somatic. A stressor is any event, experience, or environmental stimulus that causes stress.
