Features of the extraordinary tridentine form of mass included: The priest facing to the east, to the sun. The language of the mass would also remain in latin. The reason was that the priest"s focus was not upon the congregation. He was there to say the right latin words to invoke the eucharist presence of god: entertaining the crowd. In other words, it was not the purpose of the mass to entertain the crowd or the congregation. The congregation was there to bear witness to the sacrament. Instead of a peppy sermon, they"d later be treated to musical accompanient composed by the greatest artists of the period: music and the masses. Some of the greatest works of classical music were composed to accompany the tridentine mass. From bach to mozart, many composers created thei works as masses.
