At first, pope clement viii didn"t want to receive henry iv into the church. He still thought of him to be a secret calvinist. Catholic reformer philip neri was the founder of the oratorians. With the edict of fontainebleau, the sun king louis xic stripped the huguenots of the rights they had been given in the edict of nantes: bourbon france. Thanks to the work of bourbon kings like louis xiv and catholic advisors like cardinal richeleiu, Many left to found new communities in the americas: calvinism in the british isles. This was thanks to the evangelism of john knox.
