HIST-308 Lecture Notes - Lecture 60: Eucharist
Document Summary
Christ died for the sins of humankind in an extreme sense. He made just a situation which could never be made just by sinful humankind. With this act of divine self sactifice, which can never be repeated even via the mass anf the eucharist, christ made it possible for humans to satisfy. Every christian can now, like abraham be reckoned as just via faith. This is an alien justice that comes from outside us. Luther"s approach can be described as a theology of the cross. Everything begins and ends with christ"s self sacrifice. This manifests the justice in which we hope to share by faith. For luther, it stands against in which humans partake of divine glory now. Any glory we might hope for only comes later. For now we dwell in the filth of our own merit, saved only by grace: freedom of a christian.
