Stress is any uncomfortable "emotional experience accompanied by predictable biochemical, physiological and behavioral changes. Limited sources: demands of the situation, amount of resources required, discrepancy, mismatch between resources and demands, transaction with the environment, assessment of demands, resources and discrepancies. We tend to rely on peers and experience before seeking out professional advice. Cbt can be very effective to treatment of stress related problems. Appraisal: primary appraisal, assessment of demands that threaten physical and psychological well-being, challenge, harm/loss, threat, stressful, secondary appraisal, assessment of the resources that are available to meet the needs, ongoing assessment of resources. Significant discrepancies between demand and resources will lead to stress. Stress can occur without appraisal: emergencies, shock, child drowning immediate response without cognitive appraisal, bystander effect. Impaired cognitive functions: unable to view danger as danger primary appraisal is not completed, conscious appraisal techniques.
