Produced from molten state => molten materials cools off in one or two locations: in and on (deep in earth & on the surface of the earth). => molten materials = in: magma; on: lava. => rock type = in: plutonic; on: volcanic. => size of mineral crystals = in: bigger; on: smaller (tiny crystals since they cool quickly). Bigger mineral crystals has to form deep in the earth and can"t form on the surface of the earth. Size, shape, orientation and distribution of minerals in a rock (what the minerals are doing to the rocks). => aphanitic - very small crystal sizes; boring crystals (don"t have the shine).
