Document Summary

Closed-loop a control system that provides feedback to the controller on the state of the process variable: open-loop a control system that sends a control signal to a final element but does not verify the results of that control. Automatic/manual: automatic mode an output developed by the controller is sent to the final control element, manual mode an output value determined by the operators sent to the final control element. While in the manual mode, the controller output from the automatic actions is blocked. Controllers perform various functions, such as adjustable setpoints, setpoint tracking, manual output to provide the desired control actions. Few parameters are common for each control system: setpoint (sp, error, offset. Setpoint (sp) the desired value at which the process should be controlled. It is used by the controller as a reference for comparison with the process variable. (temperature or pressure setting, speed or position setting etc. : error the difference between the process variable and the setpoint.
