PSY302 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Sony Music Entertainment, Depth Perception, Swatting
Document Summary
Sensation: the processing of basic information from the external world by the sensory receptors in the sense organs. Perception: process of organizing and interpreting sensory information about the objects, events, and spatial layout of the world around us. Methods to detect behavioral and physiological changes in infants: habituation method. Repeatedly presenting an infant with a particular stimulus until the infant"s response to it habituates (declines) E. g. repeatedly present red until they habituate, then present green. If their response increases to the green, you can infer that the baby can discriminate between the old and new stimulus: preference method. If a baby looks longer at one of the two stimuli, you can infer that the baby can discriminate between the 2 and has a preference for one over the other. What can we measure in infants: high amplitude sucking. If baby is sucking hard while looking at something, they are interested. The longer they look, the more they will habituate.
