Document Summary
Physical activity should be about movement and play that is developmentally appropriate and comes naturally for the child. Movement makes major contributions to the development of the whole child: physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Develop balance, coordination, strength, healthy heart, and lungs. Prevents heart and bone disease, forms of cancer and diabetes. It is most likely that children will participate in vigorous bearing activities outside. Swinging helps children develop: coordination, sense of balance (stimulates the ear canal and its fluids) During climbing children: reach and raise shoulders/arms, cardiovascular flow, stretching increases flexibility, upper body strength, leg strength, coordination. What children learn between the ages of 0-6 years has a big impact on their lives. This is an ideal time to learn about a healthy lifestyle. Childcare providers and teachers can play an important role as role models and giving positive experiences with active play.
