Summary: the humanist philosophy underlies the nursing curriculum and is pulled through by the use of the three theoretical perspectives - phenomenology, feminism, and critical social theory. These theoretical perspectives promote the inclusion and expression of genuineness, empathic understanding, and unconditional positive regard within all nursing relationships. Phenomenology provides a focus and an approach for gaining a deeper understanding of another person"s life world. Phenomenology emphasizes openness to experience, acknowledgment and acceptance of different experiences, and a trust and valuing of people"s uniqueness. Feminism and critical social theory promote the overcoming of restrictions that people have internalized through life experiences. Is the recognition that there are multiple ways of understanding the world. Takes into consideration environmental factors that influence and affect client care time means that the past, present, and future are always present in the experiences of now. Understanding of human experiences as it is lived.
