In the time of david and solomon, this became reduced to the line of zadok, a descendent of aaron: zadok was the first high priest of solomon"s temple, the first temple, covenant 5: joshua and judges. Israel enters the promised covenantal land under joshua: they renew the covenant with god, however, in the pursuing generations they turn away from god. It also became a day of judgement of the dead.
