Vamana purana are the shortest with 10,000 couplets each. philosophy. The puranas are a valuable source from which to trace the development of hinduism. Divided in three groups following the trimurti: raja(passion): brahma purana, satva (purity): vishnu purana, tamas (gloom): shiva purana. The adventures of rama : rama, 7th avatara of vishnu, composed by saga valmiki (3rd cent. The lord of all who transcends time, the cycles of samsara and dreaming. Hindu ascetic: a person who leads an austerely simple life, especially one who abstains from the normal pleasures of life or denies himself or herself material satisfaction. 3.
