First nation, esp. in the west are subjective to the criminal justice system, viewed as them not us, treated strongly depended on their identity and the majorities. Nativist ideas, on who canadians are, tend to be associated on crimes committed. British urban immigrants (white, generally protestant)- were suspects. Became a highly suspect group, were seen nothing more as men that want to seduce farmers daughters and kill their boss" for money. Women with a weak heart, dead in the cellar with the black man laying there asleep with a knife in their hand. Shock- physical and mental: not-good looking man, shock from seeing a black man, cause of death, after evidence is heard and lawyers arguing. Judge explains the case to the jury, outlines the facts and discusses the law and sums it up to the jury.
