Every time there is an incident, the novel goes backwards in time to an incident, then goes back to the present. He sees himself as having a bad star, bad destiny. In every era, he doesn"t fit, he sorta likes this one, but still doesn"t fit. Ex: he chooses unusual items on the menu. He is much more insightful than others. He would go against his commanding officers if he doesn"t agree with what they want.
