Perception of a sensory experience w/o external stimulus (example: hearing voices: disorganized thinking. Loosening of associations (example: jumbled/illogical speech, impaired reasoning: abnormal motor behaviour. Alternations in behaviour that can include bizarre/agitated behaviours (example: stilted, rigid demeanor, eccentric dress, mutism, stupor, catatonic excitement: negative symptoms. Absence of something that should be present (example: ability to make decisions, follow through with a plan, contribute to poor social functioning/social withdrawal) Dsm-v diagnostic criteria schizophrenia: at least 1 psychotic symptom, dysfunction in family, social, occupation, poor hygiene/nutrition, cognitive dysfunction. Part of schizophrenia spectrum (psychotic condition similar to schizophrenia symptoms develops rapidly & present for a shorter period (< 6 months)
