The dislocation theory of addiction: from the official view of addiction to the dislocation theory. Summary of the official view: addiction is fundamentally a problem of drug or alcohol consumption, problems, it restricts addiction to drugs and alcohol doesn"t take into account the other addictions not relating to any substance; gambling, eating, shopping. Pharmacologicalism makes two central assumptions: the effects of drugs arise solely from their pharmacology, that there is only one type of drug user mainly addicts or people in the process of becoming addicts. In other words, that there is only one type of drug use: is there actually only one type of drug use, cross cultural, in some nations people use marijuana normally and not as a drug. In mexico city use among young adult males was restricted primarily to the homeless and cocaine was injected rather than snorted or smoked.
