Personality traits: characteristics that describe ways in which people are different from each other. Average tendencies: you are called friendly because, the majority of the time, you are. You may have a few meaner moments, but overall you are friendly: help describe people, help explain behaviour, help predict behaviour. Personality is seen as being within the individual: you bring it with you from one situation to the next, relatively stable over time. Levels of analysis: human nature, how are we like all others , traits and mechanisms are possessed by everyone, cross culturally. Individual and group differences: how we are like some others , ways in which each person is like some other, friends, for example, who have a few things in common such as an interest in music.
