Inflammatory processes: inflammation in body causes liver to release c-reactive protein into bloodstream, b/c inflammation damages arterial walls, c-reactive = prognostic sign that damage may be occurring. High blood pressure, diabetes, stress, depression, genetic predisposition, low ses. Harsh early family environment, cig smoking, obesity, anger/hostility. Level of control in daily life, job stress, ptsd, high serum cholesterol level.
