Attitude = broad or global evaluation toward issue or object (target), either favourable or unfavourable snow : e. g. , you can have positive or favourable attitude (or like) weather outside, i love. 3 components: affect how we feel about attitude object/person, behaviour how we act toward attitude object, cognition what we think/believe about attitude object. E. g. , snakes: we may dislike or feel anxiety w/ snakes (affect, we may run away from them (behaviour, we may think or believe they"re dangerous (cognition) Possible for someone to have 2 diff evaluations about same thing. Automatic attitudes involve quick, gut reaction, that don"t involve much thought. Deliberate thoughts involve more reflection involving greater levels of thought. When assessing attitudes, researchers can just ask participants their explicit (deliberate) attitudes about various attitudes objects.
