Document Summary
Statistics: statistics is a branch of mathematics that involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. There are two main branches of statistics that assist in decisions in different ways: descriptive statistics; Summarize, simplify and describe a group of numbers (data) such as the results of a research study. Based on a collection of raw scores (dataset) The job of descriptive statistics is describing the data/datum: central tendency (mean, median, mode, variability (i. e. standard deviation) A conclusion cannot be based simply off descriptive data. Needs to be conducted in order to find any type of error (i. e. Procedures that allow researchers to draw conclusions and inferences that are based on the numbers from a research study, but go beyond these data. The heart of statistics; this is a conclusion of the descriptive statistics where analysis comes into play. This analysis brings into light how the descriptive statistics and such applies to the world (by enlightening on possibility of randomization/chance)
