September 2nd & 4th, 2015: for any behaviour there are multiple explanations and reasons why someone may be doing it, behaviour = overt actions, emotions, etc, both a natural and social science! Understanding & predicting human behaviour: no two people are unique despite being uni ed by one single actions, everyone has different paths and experiences! Research: studying people (or animals) to try and determine what motivates people, what drives people, how people respond, why they do the things that they do! Applied: therapists and other psychologists who are using the knowledge gained through research to make a difference in the real world! Modern psychology: research is split into sub- elds, historical development! Textbook - chapter 1: historical development of the different schools of thought within psychology! September 2nd & 4th, 2015: some contemporary research approaches and areas of specialization! Can not prescribe medication as they are not a medical doctor: counsellor (family, marriage, school, etc, psychiatrist!
