Document Summary
Anecdotal evidence (74): personal stories about specific incidents and experiences. It is flawed because 1) it only resembles a single case study and 2) it can be distorted like self report data because people"s tendency to give socially approved information. Case study (51): an in depth investigation of an individual subject. Case studies are well suited for investigating a psychological disorder or neuropsychological issue. Studied in depth and can extend over a long period of time. Can include observation, interviews, surveys and psychological tests. They can also provide real life illustrations that strengthen a hypothesis or theory. The main problem with case studies is that they can be highly subjective and limited generalizability. Cofounding of variables (48): occurs when two variables are linked together in a way that makes it difficult to sort out their specific effects. When a extraneous variable is cofounded with an independent variable, a researcher cannot tell which is having what effect on the dependent variable.
