Defense: good things; volunteer work done, etc: have to be careful when dealing with fraud cases (for the obvious reasons, can call witness" reports, presentence report. No idea but they just have an 8 week back log. Have to tell client that this is major suck up time, time to say you"ve turned your life around, your sorry for your actions, etc. More sources, the better: victim impact statement. Before crown didn"t really have time to look at the statement, to be all touchy feely etc. Victims have right to be heard, even if it doesn"t have anything to do with the outcome (ex: plea guilty for 1st degree, automatic sentence of life, why have trial?) Financially, physically, work related, emotionally, property, etc: gladue hearing. Because the judge has to look at the issue(?: have to tell client and family: don"t make any faces when the judge is talking so you don"t give anything away.
