Christendom: characterizes the idea of european civilization (concept of self identification) Period of fusion, blending of germanic roman traditions. Produced a wide variety of governmental systems. One end is the politically fragmented kelps. The spread of a common language among ruling elites. The language ended up being latin in the frankish kingdoms. Germanic rulers, kings emerged and could only rule along with the aristocrats. The roman aristocracy (nobles) concerned with maintaining and expanding their own control. There is a very uneasy relationship between one another but they need each other to stay in power. The aristocracy redistributed the goods of war among its people from the king. Heavily militarized society, not everyone is a warrior but the structures of society are built around power of war. Kinship based clans, the basic unit of society. This is a revenge society, the allegiance is more important than money. Blood is the ties that keep you in the clans.
