Document Summary

Contemporary quebec cinema iii - the director as auteur. How do they make the films: when we look at the majority of canadian films they explain or narrate a historical event. Falls on all levels: national, cultural, and personal. always a sense or attitude of skepticism. Especially, how do we reconstruct or represent the past based on memory. Films present and deal with the remembrance and the limitations of memory: very clearly in the film polytechnique. A more circular rendition of the event through each character. It is about the contrast of the rural vs the urban space and the differentiation between the two. Nature is incorporated into the narrative, even if it is taking place in an urban area: a poetic and resonance influence. Really interesting is the presentation of a narrative that tries to overcome the traditional fear of nature, and try to approach the unknown.
